Stretch was conceived in 2014, from a desire to connect the currents of yoga in Vancouver, bringing together the vast range of traditions and practices in a way that supports dialogue, creativity and growth.
Stretch was founded by Boyd Thomson and Emmanuelle Rousseau who decided to collaborate to offer the yoga they had been seeking to their own neighbourhood and community, bringing together the teachers who are committed to their practice and dedicated to their students.
Stretch community offers yoga as an empowering and transformative practice. We believe that yoga is more than asana and should be available to everyone, regardless of ability, body type and age. We admire and encourage endless pursuit of knowledge and believe that yoga can be a catalyst for community building and social change. By holding space for conversation and dialogue, we can examine together, in the context of present day yoga, how it can affect and empower each of us. Stretch is deeply committed to continuing education and yoga research.
We hold high standards of respect and inclusion. STRETCH is committed to the transformation of society into one that promotes social justice and freedom from oppression, including, but not limited to, racism, sexism, classism, heterosexism, ageism, and ableism.
